Fall Trimester Update
Students - Welcome to Earhart or welcome back!
Parents - Thank you for checking my webpage. We have spent the first week of school going over PE and locker room policies. On Tuesday, September 2nd, we sent home a parent handbook. Please review it with you student and then complete the insert and have you son/daughter return it to his/her PE teacher. Keep this handy for when you have questions about PE policies such as dress code or medical notes.
Dress Code:
Uniforms are available for purchase throughout the year while supplies last. Students are required to dress in gym clothes daily. This includes:
Each Friday, students are expected to take their clothes home to wash them; students should bring their clothes back on Mondays.
Students are expected to tuck in their shirts and keep their shorts/sweats at their waist/hips. Un-tucked shirts and/or sagging will not be tolerated. Students also need to wear athletic shoes that are tied correctly to class. Students should keep a pair of white athletic socks and athletic shoes in their lockers.
Students are expected to bring their clothes home every Friday to wash them and return them each Monday.
· Loaner clothes are required if students forget their clothes.
· Each student is permitted one loaner without disciplinary consequences per trimester. The 2nd loaner will result in a detention; the 3rd (and subsequent) loaner(s) will result in a referral to the Assistant Principal.
·
Loaners also result in loss of citizenship
points for the day.
Parent/Medical Notes:
If your son or daughter is sick or injured, a parent note can excuse a students for up to three days. Riverside Unified School District policy requires a doctor's note to excuse a student after the third day.
Please make sure you include the date, specific limitations, and a daytime phone number where you can be contacted on the note.
Every student has the opportunity to earn a satisfactory grade regardless of athletic ability. Grades are assigned based on performance in the following categories:
1. Fitness- 40%
2. Motor Skills - 40%
3. Citizenship -20% (dressing out, participation, behavior)
Updated grades are posted in the Fitness Center window on a regular basis. It is the student's responsibility to check his/her grades and check with me if they have any questions or concerns.
Make-up Work:
Students are allowed to make up any graded assignment other than tests. The PE department holds make-ups on Thursdays right after school. Students need to report to the locker room and be dressed by 2:10. The last make-up day for the first trimester is November 13th.
Fall Instructional Units
An activity calendar is posted in the Fitness Center window. You can access the calendar by clicking on the link to the left. Activities may change due to inclement weather, or for other reasons.
FITNESS
We will begin with a Fitness Pre-Test. Fitness report cards will be sent home around the last week of September. There are six fitness tests based on the State of California's Fitness Standards. They are: Mile Run, Curl-Ups, Trunk Lit, Push-Ups, Sit & Reach, and BMI (Body Mass Index). Click the link below to view the passing Fitness standards by Age and Gender:

Fitness Testing will be here soon! We have been preparing students for the State of California Fitnessgram test. The actual test will take place in March! In an effort to give every student the best opportunity to succeed, we will be fitness training on Tuesdays during the month of February.
Fitness Center
Once every six/seven days, our class is working out in the fitness center. Students earn 50 points for following the rubric we reviewed at the beginning of the trimester for such things as staying on task, using the equipment properly, following safety precautions and not disrupting others.
If a student is absent on a day we are in the fitness center, they must come after school on a Thursday to make it up.
SOCCER
Our soccer unit will emphasize basic ball-control skills such as dribbling, passing, and shooting. Students will also learn the rules and how to play the game. Students will be tested on these skills and take a written test at the end of the unit.
