Second Trimester Update

Students will begin this trimester with the second round of fitness testing. We are looking for improvement so do your best!

Basketball is our next unit.  We will begin with skills and drills, Don't forget to check out the skills page of this website. The rubrics are there for you to learn and practice. You'll have basketball notes, motor skill rubrics, a written test and a  motor skills test.

Dress Code:

Uniforms are available for purchase throughout the year.  Students are required to dress in gym clothes daily.

Sweat shirts and Sweat pants are also available while supplies last. These are $15 each for top or bottom.

Each Friday, students are excepted to take clothes home to wash them; students should bring their clothes back on Mondays.

If your PE clothes are ever forgotten you are required to wear Loaners.

Students are excepted to tuck in their shirts and keep their shorts/sweats at their waist/hips.  Un-tucked shirts and /or sagging will not be tolerated.  Students also need to wear athletic shoes that are tied correctly to class. Students should keep a pair of shocks and athletic shoes in their lockers as they occasionally get dirty and/or wet.

Parent/Medical Notes

If your son or daughter is sick or injured, a parent note can excuse a student for up to three days. RUSD policy requires a doctor's note to excuse a student after the third day or for any extended amount of time. Please include the date, specific limitations, and a daytime phone number where you can be reached in case of questions.

Student Evaluation

Every student has the opportunity to earn a satisfactory grade regardless of athletic ability.  Grade are assigned based on performance in the following categories:

1. Fitness - 40%

2. Motor Skills - 40%

3. Citizenship - 20% (sportsmanship, participation, effort, behavior)

PHAT HAWKS:  Physically Healthy Active Teens:

The PE department has come up with this acronym and designed a Tee Shirt. Students can earn a chance to receive a PHAT HAWK tee shirt by meeting or exceeding the following criteria:  Passing all six of the Fitness Standards, completing all assignments and not having any derogatory marks throughout the trimester.  In other words, Students must have made an attempt to do there best  everyday. Two students are chosen from every class and these students may wear their tee shirts during PE.  Good luck!

Make-up Work:

Students are responsible for making up any missed assignments. Please check with me after being absent to see if you need to make-up any assignments including class runs, written assignments, sport skills or physical fitness tests, etc. The PE department holds make-ups every Thursdays right after school. Students need to report to the locker room and be dressed by 2:10.

Physical Fitness Testing:

The State of California has mandatory Physical Fitness testing for all  5th, 7th and 9th grade students. We at Earhart believe in preparing our students for these tests. We give two pre-tests, one in September and one in December. The State Test is administered in March.  The tests consist of: Mile Run, Curl-ups, Trunk-lift, Push-ups Sit & Reach and BMI (Body Mass Index). We try to keep our students/parents up to date by sending home Fitness Report Cards and improvement contracts.  This is basically a report of both how your student preformed on the test and a contract stating they will continue to practice at home to improve. We encourage students to practice and be prepared for the Test.
